Basic Skills Award

Silverhill has again been assessed against a number of standards to determine how well the children achieve against national standards as well as how well the children progress in school. We are delighted to announce that the Quality Mark has been renewed for another 3 years.

The assessor commented:
“Silverhill is a good school that has recently introduced several innovative organisational systems that are having a very positive impact on the achievements of their pupils”
“The school works closely with parents, not only having formal parental interviews to discuss pupil progress, but by organising sessions to look at the schools approach to literacy and numeracy as well as informal 'Stay and Play‟'sessions in the early years”
“In the very near future the school will face its next Ofsted inspection; all indications are that standards have risen and that the school is well placed to meet that challenge with an enthusiastic and skilled team and a genuine desire to raise standards and pupil expectations, building on the desire for high standards in literacy and numeracy.”

Conratulations Silverhill and well done to all members of staff for their dedication and commitment to ensure all children gain the skills necessary for a successful future, to the governors for their support in our drive for improving standards in all areas of school life, to all parents and grandparents for their support with children's learning and to the children for all their hard work and enthusiasm towards their learning.

Fire Safety

This week our Year 2 and Year 6 pupils have been visited by Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service.
Children used interactive resources and were actively involved in the learning experience, to ensure they took home the important fire safety messages that were taught.
The key messages were:
  • The role of the Fire Service
  • Fire safety hazards in the home
  • The importance of smoke alarms
  • Planning a safe escape plan

Year 4 trip to Eyam

On Tuesday 12th June our Year 4 pupils enjoyed a rather cool day out in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District. As a part of their 'Where we live' topic, the children visited St Laurence Church and 'Plague Cottages' in Eyam where the deadly 'Black Death' wiped out an entire community. In the afternoon they were guided round Poole’s Cavern with a fascinating look around the deep caves where they explored the vast limestone caverns and saw how the crystal stalactites and stalagmites have formed over millions of years. It was a great day out to support the children's learning and the children were, as ever, impeccably behaved. Well done Year 4!
